Abridged Audio Books

Abridged audio books are essentially condensed or shortened versions of the full book.  They are made to fit within a much shorter time frame so many parts are left out.  As a general rule I decide to get abridged audio books only when I really don’t have time to get the whole story and I have to listen to the main parts of it quickly.  Listening to abridged audio books is kind of like watching the movie version of a book…if you read the book first you are keenly aware of everything they left out of the movie.

Now that being said I don’t want to give the impression that abridged audio books aren’t worth buying.  Nor do I want to imply that the publishers never do a good job with how they condense abridged audio books from the original story.  In fact, sometimes abridged audio books are a great way to go when you just want the basics or you have limited time but want to get through the entire book in one sitting.

One of my favorite abridged audio books is The Wayne Dyer CD Collection.  It has four CDs, each about 45 minutes to an hour in length.  This collection contains four of his highly acclaimed books.  Since this is one of my abridged audio books, I can listen to it while on a short drive, or one of my running or workout sessions.  Forty-five minutes is the perfect length of time for a lot of things I do.  And, with abridged audio books it makes it easy to listen to them again as a refresher course, so to speak, rather than listening to a book which is several hours long.

The Wayne Dyer CD Collection always really inspires me.  There have been times when I was struggling with something and his CD about inner peace really hits home.  Listening to abridged audio books like this quickly helps me put things in perspective and his gentle voice has a very calming effect.  As with many of my personal development or inspirational abridged audio books, I always get something new every time I listen.  I’m sure I will listen to this many more times, and it will never get old!
