Unabridged Audio Books

When it comes to audio books, I much prefer unabridged audio books to their shortened counterparts.  Unabridged audio books are essentially the entire book on audio tape.  They are not shortened or condensed in any way.  I prefer them because you get the whole story, not just parts of it where you get to fill in the gaps.  Not to mention, in general you get much more bang for your buck with unabridged audio books.

For example, take one of the unabridged audio books which costs around $59 for 12 to 13 hours of listening.  It is not at all uncommon for the abridged version to cost around $25 for only 3 to 4 hours of listening.  As you can see, you get a much better deal with the unabridged audio books. And since I like to get the best value for my dollar AND get every last ounce of information from every audio book, I opt for the unabridged audio books almost every time.

I have a ton of unabridged audio books, but there is one that I especially want to tell you about.  It is one of my all time favorites and I love listening to it every chance I get. It’s titled Great Classic Stories: 22 Unabridged Classics.  This is perfect when you just want to listen to a short story, rather then get involved in a lengthy book.  Great Classic Stories is comprised of 22 stories, some of which are humorous and others suspenseful and dramatic.  This is one of my most prized unabridged audio books because it contains some of the greatest authors of all time including Edgar Allen Poe, and Rudyard Kipling.  And several of the narrators are incredibly talented actors from Britain, which is fun for me because I enjoy British accents!

Unabridged audio books like this, which contain short stories, are perfect for one of my long runs (my wife has me training for a marathon, so I do mean loooooonnnggg runs!).  I can get at least two or three stories in during my run and when I’m done running the last story is finished or almost finished.  So I don’t have to stop in the middle and come back to it later. (My wife sometimes gets really annoyed with me when I’m engrossed in one of my unabridged audio books and she wants me for something…I tend to put off interrupting the book!)

If you enjoy audio books, definitely get unabridged audio books.  You will get so much more out of them.  Following is a list of several of my favorite unabridged audio books that I’m sure you’ll enjoy:
